Richard Exall was disappointing in his choice of content on Sunday evening. Most was not appropriate for a jazz festival. Jungle book songs…no. Shooting stars games…..no. Amy Roberts seems to be under his control and not able to play her own stuff any more.

The feeling of sadness at the announcement of the end of the festival was palpable. But that’s us thinking about ourselves, and not the workload of all those who work to put it on year after year. We thank you so much for the years of happiness you all have given us and especially our son who has experienced the best start possible in his musical experience. We will do all we can to make the last one the best ever. Thank you Fred and all the unsung volunteers. Warmest regards Andrew.

My partner and I enjoyed the jazz festival this year and its sad to see it go after next year as we both enjoy coming to swanage to the jazz festival. We normally go to the free events with dave brennan and they are normally very good we have enjoyed the past jazz festivals and you all do a wonderful job.

Having enjoyed the 2016 festival so much – and being first time attendees – we were delighted to learn there will be a 2017 event, in spite of the threat to its continuation. Not only is Swanage a fine place to visit but all the venues were first class and the organisation extremely good.
Looking forward to some of the old faces and some new in 2017 and hoping that a way might be found to continue beyond the coming year.
Thank you for all the efforts of the organisers.

How refreshing it was to hear the young musician Will Robinson fronting Dave Brennan’s Jubilee Jazz Band. He was touted as being one to watch out for on the festival website in the run up to 2016’s festival apparently. My wife and our friends all thought he very much lived up to this billing and applaud Dave Brennan for giving a young, yet extremely competent and exciting trumpet player (such a vital instrument for a really great jazz band) the place in his band. We await to find out if he will be with Dave’s band at the 2017 festival. Other young players tend towards the soulless (in my honest opinion) modern jazz , so to hear Will playing so well in the NOLA and dixieland style was great.

In reply to the above comment from Jon Westwood I have to say that I completely concur. Wil Robinson has really carved out a name for himself on the trad/NO scene. He plays with a rare sense of excitement and commitment, leading the line and pulling in the other band members along his chosen route as he goes. I am pleased to be able to tell Mr Westwood that Wil is once again fronting Dave Brennan’s band.
