Tom ‘Spats’ Langham joined Tommy Burton’s Sportinghouse Strings in 1994. ‘Spats’ vocal refrains accompanying himself on Lang and Grosz style guitar-playing, complements his magnificent and unique Harry Reser style virtuoso tenor banjo performances. As well as his solo appearances and his own Hot Strings trio, ‘Spats’ has worked regularly with The Pasadena Roof Orchestra; The Swedish Jazz Kings; the Chris Barber Band and Keith Nichols’ various ensembles. He has been invited to perform at the Bix Beiderbecke Festival at Davenport, U.S.A. since 2005 and in 2006 sang the role of Bing Crosby in the Paul Whiteman recreation with the Northern Symphonia under the direction of Keith Nichols. His vast experience of working amongst the best in British, European, American and Australian musicians in a relatively small number of years has made him one of the most technically-brilliant musicians on the British jazz circuit. He’s also one of the nicest.
