The 2013 Festival

The Festival Committee has decided that the 24th Swanage Jazz festival will take place from 12-14 July 2013.
This year’s Festival put our organisation under tremendous strain and cost a great deal in coping with the terrible weather and its effect on our venues.
In spite of the  the difficulties and the fairly dismal weather over the weekend, we have had  an enthusiastic response from those of you who attended in this year’s Festival.  We are grateful to the many supporters who contributed to our fighting fund at the Festival.

Congratulations on the line-up of bands for this year. My wife and I attended on the Saturday and every one of the 6 bands we saw were excellent.

The use of the Methodist church as a replacement for Marquee 3 worked very well – sound was good and very comfortable – perhaps it could be used again next year to save the cost of hiring a marquee?

I hope you managed to cover your costs despite the dire weather. Looking at other Jazz Festivals around he country Swanage seems to be a little bit underpriced for what is on offer – I’m sure most people who regularly attend would happily pay £5 more for a day ticket or £10 more for a weekend ticket to ensure it continues to the same high standard.

    Best Wishes for 2013

Great news you’re running next year. We booked our hotel in the knowledge that the Dunkirk Spirit morphs into D Day when needed !
Loved all dozen bands we saw in all genres. The quality was very high.
The acoustics in the sports centre were, naturally very bad, though Brass Volcanoes did a great job.
The Methodist Church had good acoustics & atmosphere.
I agree with David Taylor that another fiver per day would be not noticed.

Absolutely delighted that you have managed to save the festival for 2013. This is one of the highlights of our ‘summer’. We really look forward to next year

You may like to look at my thoughts on this year festival by reading my latest post in the above blog.

I can only say yet again how wonderfully well the organizers copped with this years many frustrations. Well done. When would you like my money for next year Fred?

I have been coming every year for over 22. Swanage is this countries best jazz festival!

Delighted to know our first Swanage festival won’t be our last. Congratulations on your efforts to keep this year’s afloat (sorry!) and to ensure the festival will continue. We were astonished at the number of stand-out acts we were able to take in on every single day – a contrast to some festivals where a stroller system has involved long queues or shut-outs for some venues. Glad you went ahead with the Abram Wilson tribute, giving his young discoveries the chance to play before a big audience in the class of company they clearly merit. And hearing Arun Ghosh live confirmed what his discs tell us – probably the most exciting new talent this decade.
I agree with the comments above – great value, and we wouldn’ t be fazed by paying a little more to maintain it.
