Brownfield-Byrne Quintet

Jamie Brownfield (t) Liam Byrne (ts) Andy Hulme (g) Nick Blacka (b) Marek Dorcik (d)

The Brownfield/Byrne Quintet (BBQ) plays straight ahead jazz with a fresh and youthful enthusiasm for the ‘Blue Note’ era hard bop styles. Performing standards and bebop favourites from the 40′s and 50′s as well as some lesser-known contemporary material. You will be hearing a lot from this group in the future, their playing is far more mature than their faces. Jamie Brownfield, just 20, (2nd in the British Jazz Awards Rising Star 2011) is already a well-recognised trumpet player with a style reminiscent of Clifford Brown and Liam Byrne, graduate from Leeds College of Music and The Guildhall, London, has learnt a lot from Sonny Rollins. Andy Hulme (guitar), Nick Blacka (bass) and Marek Dorcik (drums) complete the line-up.
Their debut CD ‘Keepin’ it Cool’ came 4th in the 2009 British Jazz Awards and is now sold out but is still available on iTunes and Spotify.
